BEATRICE - With the oath delivered by U.S. District Judge Robert Rossitor, Jr., 36 people from 19 different countries became new U.S. citizens on Flag Day.
A naturalization ceremony was held at the Homestead National Monument of America near Beatrice, which commemorates a significant step in the settlement of the U.S., the Homestead Act of 1862.

Each new citizen stood as a roll call of their names was made by Immigration Services Officer Jose Camarillo. Members of Nebraska's Congressional delegation were among those, to welcome the newest Americans.
U.S. Senator Deb Fischer said that thanks to those taking the oath, the U.S. bursts new energy, ideas and innovations. She said the nation's heart beats with the strength of new citizens from nearly every country around the globe. Fischer read from a letter former President Ronald Reagan received upon leaving office.

U.S. House Representative for Nebraska's Second District, Don Bacon congratulated those taking the oath, saying all have worked hard to reach this day.

The Education Center at the Homestead National Monument of America has hosted Naturalization Ceremonies twice annually, for the past several years.
The 36 new citizens received certificates today to mark their citizenship and were given the opportunity to register to vote.
