O'NEILL, NE - St. Patrick's Day isn't just a one-day event in Nebraska's Irish Capital. It takes a full week to celebrate in O'Neill and one of the first tasks is to paint the World's Largest Shamrock in the middle of downtown. A wet forecast forced the painting project to Monday but that didn't stop the O'Neill men's club from getting the job done.

“We looked at the weather report and they're talking about two inches of moisture from (Tuesday) to Friday,” O'Neill resident Bart Becker said. “So it was either now or Saturday morning… we weren't going to be part of not painting the shamrock, so we're doing it.”

The painting is an annual tradition that many residents have participated in for decades, including Junior Adamson who has helped paint the shamrock for 60 years. Other activities for the week include the Irish Walk of Fame presentation, dying a pond green, dying a horse green, and concerts. The big show is the parade on Saturday, which you can watch live on News Channel Nebraska at 1:00 PM.
