Charles Park in Beatrice was a busy place Tuesday night as families participated in the National Night Out activities sponsored by the Beatrice Police Department.
Beatrice Police Officer Courtney Brauch says the event helps build relationships with the community.
“Bridging the gap between the community and police. We just want to really be out there in the community and getting to know our community members and building that strong relationship.”
A number of organizations participated in the three hour event. Officer Brauch says the participation of the different groups and organizations help make the evening a success..
“It really has been an outpour…we have received so many donations from businesses and non-profits who have been wanting to be a part of this event. We have been so thankful and so blessed with the community being involved in this event. We couldn’t have asked for a better event.”
Also participating in the evening event was the Beatrice Fire Department and the Nebraska State Patrol.
Officer Brauch says Beatrice was one of many communities across the country holding the National Night Out event.
“Police departments all over the nation are organizing as event like this today and they are doing the same thin in their neighborhoods…trying to get out there and be a familiar face.”
Beatrice Police Chief Jay Murphy was pleased to see such a good turnout for the evening.
“That’s what National Night Out is all about is bring the community and the police together. Our community in Beatrice is fantastic and this is just a time for us to celebrate”.
