Gretna East dominates on defense, beats Waverly to go to state final
LINCOLN — The Gretna East Griffins held Waverly to 26% shooting and earned a 38-34 win on Friday night.
The victory puts the 7-seed Griffins in the state final in just the second year of the program.
Neither side found its offense in the first half and Gretna East led 16-10 at the break. The teams started to hit shots in the third quarter and exchanged the lead a couple of times before the Griffins pulled ahead with 2:50 left in the quarter. They held the lead the rest of the way and made enough free throws down the stretch to seal it.
The Griffins will match up with #1 Omaha Skutt at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
