SHELTON, Neb. — A Gibbon woman is now in emergency custody after authorities say she fired several shots near a road.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a report of a woman having a mental health crisis near the Shelton exit of Interstate 80 shortly after noon on Monday. Deputies found her vehicle near the Platte River bridge south of the interstate.

According to a news release, the woman left the vehicle on foot and fired several rounds at different times. Deputies don’t know what she was shooting at.

The Sheriff’s Office used drones and deputies on the ground to monitor the 62-year-old woman until she could be taken into custody.

Nobody was injured and authorities don’t plan to pursue criminal charges. The Kearney Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Shelton Volunteer and EMS assisted with the scene.
