NORFOLK - Pierce and Lutheran High Northeast squared off in a classic battle of Northeast Nebraska teams on Tuesday night, with the Pierce girls winning 51-18 and the Eagle boys winning 39-24.

The Pierce girls entered their game on the road at 2-3, while Lutheran High Northeast was still searching for their first win under first year head coach Ryan Cadwallader.

After a tight first quarter where the Bluejays led 14-8, the Eagles scored the next five points to make it a 14-13 game midway through the second quarter.

That's when Pierce pressed down the pedal and began scoring at will and forcing Lutheran High Northeast into turnovers. The bluejays went on an 8-0 run into halftime and continued that run into the third quarter.

Pierce would go on to have a remarkable 36-0 run before the Eagles knocked down a three pointer late in the fourth quarter.

The Bluejays outscored the Eagles 30-5 in the second half for their third win on the season, while Lutheran High Northeast falls to 0-8.

Skylar Scholting led the way for Pierce with 13 points and 7 boards. Ava Knox had 11, with Abbie Cone and Hadley Wragge scoring 8 and freshman Nora Herian had 7 points and 11 rebounds.

In the Eagle loss, Delaney Rose Hancock scored 6 points.

The Lutheran High Northeast boys entered the court with a 7-0 record against a Pierce team with a record of 3-2.

The Eagles started the game on an 8-0 run before the Bluejays found a bucket.

Lutheran High Northeast managed to keep Pierce at bay for the majority of the game, leading 22-11 at halftime and up by 13 points heading into the fourth quarter.

Pierce tried to force Lutheran High into mistakes, but with great ball handling and slashing to the rim for points, the Eagles powered through the Bluejays to remain unbeaten after a 39-24 victory.

Josh Rojas had a tremendous game, thanks to his inside scoring and ability to force turnovers, racking up 17 points in the win. Also scoring 10 for the Eagles was Gavin Feddern off the bench.

In the Bluejay defeat, Deon Watts scored 11 and Keaton Frazier finished with 9.

Lutheran High Northeast moved to 8-0 while Pierce falls to 3-3.
