LINCOLN - The executive director of the state's most prestigious all-star football game will be stepping down.

Nebraska Shrine Bowl Executive Director, Dave MacDonald, announced on Sunday that he will be retiring after serving in the position for the past ten years.

Below is MacDonald's full statement:

"This is my last year. A lot of people don't know outside the organization, but we are volunteers. I still work a full-time job outside of my duties for the Shrine Bowl and they can be very consuming during parts of the year, and this will be my 10th year.

I just felt it best for the Shrine Organization. I had pretty much given it my all for the past 10 years and we've seen some really positive changes. I'm only a very small part of those changes, but I'm very proud of what we've accomplished, and I felt at this point, with everything that still goes on with my full-time job and my personal life, that 10 years dedicated to this was enough. It was time to let somebody else come in and take over from where we're at and see it progress and make it even better.

[There's] nothing there other than I gave it my all for 10 years. I think we did a really good job. I think it's in a good place to transition and turn it over, and we're really excited to make that move come June 3."

MacDonald's time as executive director will end after the conclusion of the 65th Annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl on Saturday, June 3.

Jon Cerny will replace MacDonald as the Nebraska Shrine Bowl's next executive director. Cerny currently serves as the Bancroft-Rosalie Superintendent and is a member of the Sesostris Shrine Center in Lincoln.

The 65th Annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl will be televised on News Channel Nebraska on Saturday, June 3, with coverage starting at 5:30 PM CT.
