KEARNEY, NE — Police say a Kearney man is responsible for a series of burglaries at local pharmacies.

Kearney Police say officers noticed a man running from Medicap Pharmacy around 4:45 Tuesday morning. They established a perimeter, found burglar tools at the pharmacy and arrested 30-year-old Nicholas Romeo.

The police investigation tied Romeo to a March burglary at Medicap Pharmacy and a pair of burglaries at U-Save Pharmacy from February and December.

“This arrest is the result of proactive policing from Uniform Patrol Officers and Sergeants along with team work among allied agencies and Kearney Police Investigators,” Chief Bryan Waugh said in a news release. “We believe this was once again an attempt to gain access to and steal opioids. The work by our officers likely prevented another burglary by this subject.”

Criminal charges are pending for three counts of felony burglary, felony arson, felony possession of burglar tools and attempted burglary.
