NEBRASKA CITY - The Morton-James Public Library announced in a news release Thursday that artist Danielle Dewees' work will be on display throughout February in its Kimmel Gallery.

The Bennet, Neb., based artist makers her artwork from her home studio where she focuses on relief printmaking, but she also has experience working with digital art, graphite and watercolor.

Dewees earned a Bachelor of Fine Art with an emphasis in graphic design from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2014.

The artwork on display explores wildlife native to the Great Plains, with the goal of getting viewers to gain a deeper appreciation for Midwest wildlife and the surrounding environment. She purposely scouts locations that have seen little impact from industrialization and draws inspiration from exploring such environments.

In 2020, in a competition coordinated by the Nebraska Arts Council, Dewees design was selected as Nebraska's first Supports the Arts license plate.

Dewees has received numerous awards throughout her career including the James Ray Award and three People's Choice Awards. Her work has been recognized locally and regionally.

The exhibit is free and open to the general public during regular library hours and will be available until Feb. 25.

Library hours:

Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.

Friday: 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.
