LINCOLN - State leaders are encouraging Nebraskans to ring in the new year by setting physical wellness goals.
Governor Pete Ricketts held a press briefing on Monday morning, which was followed by his annual walk around the State Capitol, to highlight the importance of living a physically healthy lifestyle.
"We want to encourage people to have a routine where they are exercising regularly, where they are eating healthy, and making sure that they are in physical shape to be able to enjoy the great things this state has to offer," Ricketts explained.
As a part of the effort, the Nebraska Sports Council announced the launch of its free-to-use WellPower Movement website which allows Nebraskans to track their physical fitness goals online.
"There are literally hundreds of [virtual] badges that you can earn, and some of them are surprises," Nebraska Sports Council Executive Director Dave Mlnarik shared. "A lot of it is based on Nebraska history."
Logging miles is something that Mlnarik says helps people stay on top of their exercise goals.
Leaders also encouraged Nebraskans to participate in the WellPower Movement with family and friends as another way to make sure goals are met.
