Library hosts plethora of veteran services
Veteran's Day was Thursday, but Norfolk continues to show up for its service members.

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Veteran's Day was Thursday, but Norfolk continues to show up for its service members.
Some people cut their hair on their own, others head to a salon, while veterans went to the library, Friday, for the "Stand Up for Veterans" event hosted by the Veteran Family Services and Norfolk Elk Club.
"It's a great service to have available," said Michael Nordiyke, sponsor/Elk's Member, and Army Veteran as his hair was trimmed. But the event wasn't just for trims -- community resources showed up to brush up vets on opportunities around them.
"The Omaha Veteran Center offers a variety of resources from PTSD counseling, marriage and family therapy, and education and employment counseling," said Robert Montag, outreach specialist at the Omaha Veteran Center, which serves all of northeast Nebraska in person and virtually. "One of our goals is to start a group here in town," Montag said, "As long as people show interest we can get a counselor up here."
Others showed up to even make new announcements: "We just developed a partnership with Norfolk Iron & Metal and they are sponsoring free rides for veterans," said Anna Meis of Norfolk Area Transit.
The event also gave away raffles and goodie bags for veterans and encouraged vets to reach out to learn more.
"This is the perfect time to do it around Veteran's Day," said Montag.
