STANTON, Neb. -- A 15-year-old Stanton High School student airlifted after a rollover accident north of Stanton Thursday morning.

According to the Stanton County Sheriff's Office, the driver was en route to school just before 8:00 a.m. when their vehicle rolled on Ridge Road, about two miles north of Stanton.

The driver was ejected through the rear window and was found 40 feet from the vehicle suffering critical injuries. Authorities stabilized the driver at the scene and then flew them directly to UNMC in Omaha.

Sheriff Mike Unger says seatbelts were not in use, and speed is considered a contributing factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
