NPS provides update on school district expansion

NORFOLK, Neb. -- The Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) board of education provided an update on the expansion of the school district during their November 8 meeting.

NPS scheduled a meeting with Madison Public Schools and Battle Creek Public schools to negotiate school district boundaries around new areas of Norfolk which was annexed in early October. However, the school's attorney informed the board that the Nebraska Department of Education had changed how land transfers work between school Districts.

"This no longer requires Board action," Norfolk Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jami Jo Thompson said. "I simply need to file documentation with Madison County once our 90 day waiting period is over."

Thompson also gave an update on when annexed areas can expect the transfer of taxes to NPS. The transfer will begin on July 1, 2022.
