SIDNEY - The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne says there's a 10-20% chance of a "boom scenario" where the Sidney area could see six inches or more of snow when two rounds of winter weather impacts the Nebraska panhandle and southeast Wyoming Sunday and Monday.

The confidence level in snow amounts above six inches is low. However, upwards of three to six inches could be possible, especially in Kimball, Morrill, Garden, Deuel, Keith and Cheyenne Counties.

The National Weather Service has placed the Nebraska panhandle, southeast Wyoming, and Keith, Perkins and Lincoln Counties, in a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. Sunday to noon Monday.

"First round is ongoing Sunday morning with light freezing drizzle, freezing fog and light snow across portions of the area," the weather service said. "A second, more impactful round, is probable starting late Sunday afternoon into the evening and overnight. It'll slowly end by mid-day Monday."

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the northern panhandle until 6 p.m. Sunday.

The weather service says light snow will be common Sunday afternoon to evening through this period ,but local moderate to heavy snow bands will be possible and allow for higher accumulation in local areas.

Residents and travelers should be prepared for sudden drops in visibilities down to one quarter mile and slick snow-covered roadways, according to the NWS.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
