Closing arguments coming Monday in Gonzalez trial
FAIRBURY, NE — Attorneys will make their final arguments in the Jake Gonzalez child abuse resulting in death case on Monday.
The 19-year-old Fairbury resident is accused of fatally injuring two-year-old Hollen Siedschlag in February. He is also charged with making terroristic threats to Hollen’s mother, Baily, whom he was living with and dating at the time.
The trial was scheduled to last two weeks but advanced more quickly than expected. Court was not in session on Friday and closing arguments are slated for Monday. The jury is expected to start deliberation on Monday and could reach a verdict in the afternoon or evening.
If the jury finds Gonzalez guilty of child abuse resulting in death, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
