NORFOLK, Neb. - A nonprofit's biggest fundraiser is kicking off in northeast Nebraska.

Norfolk Schools in Malawi is hosting "Relay for Malawi" Saturday at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park.

Organizer Dr. Joe Mtika is hoping to see a lot of community support after last year's event was canceled due to COVID-19.

"A good thing that we're coming back after the closing and not doing the things that we like doing," said the President of Norfolk Schools in Malawi Dr. Mtika. "Also to raise funds for the school in Malawi so we can bring more students to come and study here."

The 30-mile relay started back in 2013 when Dr. Mtika raised $5,500 running 32 miles from Wayne State College to Norfolk.

Since then, it has grown into a multi-team relay event and Dr. Mtika hopes to raise $10,000 this weekend.
