Garcia seeking Boyle's Douglas County Board seat
Roger Garcia, who lost to Boyle by three votes in the May 2020 Democratic Primary, is putting his name into an appointment hopper that finds three top Douglas County officials deciding who gets the job.

Following the death of Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle, the man who ran and lost to Boyle in a razor-thin election last year is announcing his bid to fill Boyle’s seat.
Roger Garcia, who lost to Boyle by three votes in the May 2020 Democratic Primary, is putting his name into an appointment hopper that finds three top Douglas County officials— County Attorney Don Kleine, Treasurer John Ewing and Clerk/Comptroller Dan Esch—deciding who gets the job.
Garcia, a former member of the Metropolitan Community College Board, says he and Boyle were friends before and after the 2020 race.
“There is much I learned and could have continued learning from Mike,” Garcia posted on Facebook. “If there was anybody to lose to by only 3 votes—well, it was my honor to humbly come out on the losing side of such a close race, to the public service legend, Mike Boyle.”
All applicants for the District 1 seat, representing southeast Omaha and downtown, have to have their names in by 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 4.
