COLUMBUS, Neb. – A brand new event came to Columbus this weekend. Approximately 75 people came out to crank the bass and feel the subwoofers on Sunday for a car audio competition at the US 30 Speedway, according to event organizer Bryan Beasley.

There were over 30 competition categories, with winners bringing home plaques and license plates.

“There were no cash prizes,” Beasley said. “It’s for the love of the hobby of trying to gain decibels or build something differently…It’s about honing a little bit of a different skill.

Beasley said the bulk of contestants came from outside of Columbus, with some driving at least five hours, with some sticking around for close to 10 hours.

“There aren’t that many competitions anywhere, so we all drive at least a couple hours. I didn’t have to drive anywhere today. But giving local people a chance to see this, it might be enough to get someone seriously into audio.

Beasley said he hopes the competition becomes an annual event.

“It’s quite interesting seeing car audio builds that are more than just two subwoofers,” Beasley said. “The experience of feeling the music inside your body is something you should definitely experience at least once in your life.”
