CRETE, NE - Three southeast Nebraska senior American Legion baseball teams made the state tournament and all three are still alive after the first weekend.
Crete is hosting the Class B tournament at Tuxedo Park, therefore earning a spot despite a three-win regular season. The Crete Stop N Shop seniors lost 10-3 on Saturday to Omaha Roncalli but earned a win against Broken Bow on Sunday. Crete's Lucas Lenhoff was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give the underdog Crete team a 6-5 walk-off win.
Hickman Post 105 is also playing in the Crete tournament. They scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-4 win over Broken Bow on Saturday. On Sunday, Hickman took down Omaha Roncalli 7-3 despite being outhit 8-4.
Tecumseh qualified for the Class C state tournament played in Palmer. The Post 2 seniors fell 5-1 to Shelby-Osceola-Stromsburg on Saturday. They recovered to defeat Imperial 7-6 in extra innings on Sunday.
Here's what Monday's schedule looks like: Crete faces Central City in an elimination game at 1:00, Tecumseh plays Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley in an elimination game at 2:00 and Norris goes against Alliance in a winners bracket game at 7:00.
