Omaha man booked after allegedly driving into mailboxes and backyard

OMAHA, Neb. -- Early Sunday morning, Omaha Police responded to a call to investigate a personal injury accident at 11026 Shirley Street. Police say that dispatch then advised the officers that there had been a shooting that occurred at this location.
Police say that Benjamin Novak, age 36, had crashed into multiple mailboxes and then crashed through a fence into the backyard of 11026 Shirley.
Officials say that Novak then exited his vehicle and attempted to break into the residence; then a resident discharged a firearm which struck Novak.
Police say OFD medics transported Novak to CUMC-Bergan Mercy Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
Novak was released from the hospital and booked at Douglas County Corrections for attempted burglary, criminal mischief, a fourth offense of driving under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, colliding with a fixed object and failure to maintain lane.
