Beatrice Overpowers Nebraska City
The Pioneers fall to 2-10 on the season after a 28-5 loss to the Beatrice Orangmen at home.
NEBRASKA CITY- In a game that featured seven total homeruns, Beatrice came out on top in Nebraska City, 28-5, after five innings of play.
From the get-go, Beatrice seemed to have the upper hand. Scoring eight runs in the opening half of the inning, the Orangmen proved why they only have one loss so far into the season.
Beatrice junior Adam Deboer not only flexed his pitching capabilities on the mound, but also showed some power behind the plate. The junior pitched a hit-less two innings with three strikeouts, but with a bat Deboer was 3-6 with three homeruns and an oustounding 9 RBI's.
The Orangemen added onto their lead in the second inning, with two more runs, and then again in the top of the third with seven runs.
Nebraska City saw some life in the fourth inning, however. The Pioneers halted the onslaught of offense from Beatrice in the top of the fourth, and in the bottom of the fourth saw some of their own.
With only one hit for the Pioneers into the bottom of the fourth, Nebraska City strung a couple of baserunners together to score one run and fully load them up with only one out. Nebraska City junior Zach Tesarek stepped up to the plate and eyed at least one more run.
Tesarek, who was batting .094 coming into the game, swung on the first pitch and laced a ball toward the left field wall. It carried all the way past the left fielder and into the parking lot for a grand-slam, giving the Pioneers something to celebrate.
The celebration in the Nebraska City dugout was short-lived, though, as just one inning later the game would be called after five innings of play. Beatrice got the final cheer in Nebraska City 28-5.
Beboer had three homeruns for Beatrice, junior Max Reis, sophomore Tucker Timmerman, and senior Qwin Zabokrtsky all had one solo shot for the Orangmen.
For Nebraska City, senior Clay Stovall and sophomore Cael Kreifels both went 2-3 in the game, and sophomore Colton Synder picked up an RBI along with Tesarek's four.
