(Peru, Neb.) – After the first day of the Leatherneck Classic being held in Davenport, Iowa, the Peru State men's bowling team found themselves in 31st. The competition was being held in the Big River Bowl.
 
This was a true mix of competition with teams from the NCAA Division I level to the NAIA.
 
The leading team after the first day was Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ill.) who had a six-game team total of 6,390.

Mason Clobes (Seward) led Peru State in the individual games with a pin total of 1,007 while averaging a 167.83. Clobes' top game was a 201. Michael Anderson (Cairo) had a total of 931 for an average of 155.17. Anderson rolled a 185 as his top game.
 
Gavin Maas (Glenwood, Iowa) was right behind Anderson with a total of 924 for an average of 154. Maas's best effort was a 175. Alexander Chmelka (Lincoln) averaged 148.5 off a total of 891. Chmelka's best game was a 179. Continuing to show improvement was Austin Guhde-Egger (Auburn) who had an 850 for an average of 141.67. Guhde-Egger's best showing was a 164. 

 
The team was competing in the Baker games part of the tournament on Sunday.

Next weekend, March 27 and 28, will be the final tournament for the first year of Peru State's competitive bowling season. The team will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, taking part in the Five Season tournament at the May City Bowl.
