One Torrington teenager was killed and other hospitalized in critical condition when their cars collided about 7:30 Saturday morning south of Torrington on Hwy 85.

Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman Jeremy Beck says 19-year old Tyler Schaub was northbound when his car veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a car driven by 18-year old Samantha Hill. Both vehicles came to rest in the opposite ditches.

Schaub was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. Hill, who was wearing a seat belt, was extricated from her car by Goshen County emergency personnel and flown by helicopter to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with life-threatening injuries.

Beck says driver fatigue on the part of Schaub is being investigated as a potential contributing factor to the accident. The Wyoming Dept of Transportation says Hwy 85 traffic was detoured through the Huntley area for about 3-½ hour.

Schaub is the 18th highway fatality so far this year, 7 more than last year and 6 more than in 2018, but 7 fewer than in 2019.

Counselors and other support was made available today as needed at Torrington High School with community members also urged to call if they felt the need for such help.
