DES MOINES- The Iowa Class 4A one-seeded Glenwood rams move their team up the bracket, and now look to face the defending state champions, North Scott.

The rams first, however, had to take down an eight-seeded Wahlert Catholic golden eagles team that has been quietly shocking teams. The golden eagles knocked out the 21-3 Waverley-Shell Rock go-hawks on the road 52-46 in the regional tournament.

The Class 4A state quarterfinals featured a slow start from both sides. Glenwood edged out the golden eagles 18-13 after the first quarter. The main takeaway from the first quarter of play was the foul tally. Glenwood ended the first half with 14 total fouls, and Wahlert Catholic with nine in the first two quarters.

The second quarter was more of what the Glenwood rams are accustomed to, as they scored 22 points and had a double digit lead at the break, 40-29. Wahlert Catholic's senior Mary Kate King led all scorers with nine points. Right behind her was Glenwood's senior Emma Hughes with eight points.

The second half for the rams resumed the way the second quarter had, with an edge in both quarters to increase its lead. The third quarter also saw adjustments in terms of aggressiveness from the rams. Glenwood's second half foul totals was only four, compared to the previous half's 14 total.

Glenwood rocked out Wahlert Catholic 79-57 behind junior Abby Hughes's 15 points. It was a balanced scoring attack for the rams, with four players in double figures and two more just a single point below that mark. Senior Emma Hughes ended with 13 points, juniors Coryl Matheny and Madison Camden both ended with 11 points, senior Elle Scarborough and junior Byrnlee Arnold both ended with nine.

For the Wahlert Catholic golden eagles, the offensive load came from seniors Ana Chandlee with 17 and Mary Kate King with 15 points.

The Glenwood rams advance and now shift their focus to a tough five-seeded North Scott team who is coming off of an undefeated run last year in the 2020 state tournament. The semifinal match-up will be Thurs. March 4th on B103. Pregame is set for 1:15 CST.
