The questions, ACLU of Nebraska calls them “red flags,” come in the aftermath of last summer’s protests.

Through a massive public records request the ACLU received hundreds of OPD emails which, according to the civil liberties group, finds police in effect spying on groups without any reasonable suspicion of criminal conduct.

According to a statement from the city, OPD was not involved in any improper surveillance adding phones were not tapped and people were not followed.

The city insists police simply viewed public social media posts in order to gather information on events that might require police to control traffic and keep the peace.
