HARTINGTON - Crofton took that first step towards the state tournament by downing Plainview 40-31 in the boys' C2-5 Subdistrict play-in game Monday night.

The Warriors won the game on the boards, outrebounding the Pirates 27-15. Jayden Eilers (10 points) and Mayson Ostermeyer (7 pts) finished with 8 and 7 rebounds respectively, while Simon McFarland chipped in 5 rebounds to go along with 9 points.

Plainview hung tough, whittling a 12-point 2nd-quarter Crofton lead down to 2 points late in the 3rd, thanks in large part to Riley Kaup's game-high 15 points, all of which came from behind the 3-point line.

Crofton (3-18) moves on to take on Hartington Cedar Catholic in tonight's semifinal round.
