Meteorologists monitoring potential for heavy snow along Interstate 80

SIDNEY - A prolonged period of winter weather continues across the Sidney area through the weekend.
A winter storm warning remains in effect until 5 a.m. Sunday for Morrill, Banner, Scotts Bluff, Box Butte, Sioux and Dawes Counties in the Nebraska Panhandle, and Goshen County in southeast Wyoming.
Laramie, Kimball, Cheyenne, Deuel, Garden, Keith, Arthur, Perkins, Chase, Logan, Sedgwick and Phillips Counties remain in a winter weather advisory until 11 a.m. Sunday.
An additional three to six inches of snow will be possible Saturday, with the heaviest snowfall expected late in the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne.
"We will continue to monitor the I-80 corridor from Cheyenne to Sidney for the potential for heavy snow developing tonight that could result in hazardous travel conditions.," the NWS said.
Friday saw high temperatures struggle to reach the double digits. The weather service says don't ex[ect that to change for at least the next two days.
"Wind chill temperatures Sunday and Monday morning will range from 20 to 40 degrees below zero for much of the area," according to the National Weather Service. "Bundle up, limit time outdoors and carry a winter survival kit in your vehicle. Remember that frost bite and hypothermia can set in rapidly when wind chills fall below zero."
These cold temperatures will be especially hazardous for newborn livestock.
