FAIRBURY - "Stay Home, Stay Put"  words of advice from John McKee who is the Emergency Management Directory for Saline and Jefferson counties regarding the winter storm that is blowing through Southeast Nebraska.

According to the National Weather Service travel, if it isn't already will become difficult if not impossible by this evening.

McKee said staying home is not just for the safety of yourself, but others as well.  "If you get lost or stranded, it just puts 40-50 more people out on the road looking for you, which puts more people in danger."

A winter storm warning continues until tomorrow morning where snow amount totals are expected to be anywhere from 9 all the way up to 16 inches in locations especially just south of I-80.

Northeasterly winds are expected to blow at 15-25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 which combined with the wet snow, could cause power outages.

The snow from the system will linger into Tuesday morning and should come to an end by 6 AM.  Additional snow is possible Tuesday night as another system moves into the area, but amounts from this second system should be an inch or less.
