Preferred Popcorn Reflects on National Popcorn Day

CHAPMAN -- Grab a bowl and a movie; it's National Popcorn Day!

Preferred Popcorn in Chapman, Nebraska is excited for a day to celebrate their industry.

Owner Norm Krug looked back on what the day means after a tough year. He said in 2020, sales dropped by half -- thanks to theatres and stadium closings.

To cope, Krug is emphasizing global exports more and has joined amazon. He's even started selling portion packs with oil and salt ready to go for the retail market, rather than shipping large amounts off to the entertainment industry.

Krug said he can't estimate how sales compare today to last year's, yet, but that calls are already coming in.
