BATTLE CREEK - The Braves and Bravettes used hot starts and aggressive play at the basket to score a sweep over Lutheran High Northeast Thursday night.

Paytyn Taake and Brianna Zohner led the way for Battle Creek with 14 and 16 points, respectively, as the Bravettes opened up a 5-0 lead early and never looked back en route to a 44-33 victory. Taake's play in the paint punctuated Bravettes possessions with several and-one opportunities. Becca Gebhardt led all Lady Eagles with 10 points. The win snaps BC's 3-game losing streak.

It was a good night to be named Payton (or Paytyn) as the Braves' Payton Frederick poured in 16 points, including 4 shots from 3-point land, as the Battle Creek boys evened their record on the season with a 43-35 victory. The game was tight for the better part of 3 quarters before BC pulled away late, thanks to great defensive positioning, which drew 3 offensive charges from the Eagles and turned the tide of momentum a number of times in the contest. Cort McKeown topped all Eagles scorers with 12 points, and gamely shook off an injury to go the distance for LHNE.

Battle Creek (5-8 girls, 6-6 boys) are home again Tuesday against GACC, while Lutheran High (7-6 girls, 7-4 boys) are back home against Cedar Catholic.
