BEATRICE – The Beatrice Board of Education has approved the hiring of a new Beatrice Middle School principal. Andrew Haake will take over for John Jarosh at the end of this school year when Jarosh retires.

"We do think he is the right person for the job, and so we're excited to welcome him into that role."
Superintendent Jason Alexander says Haake was the only candidate from an internal search conducted.  Haake moves up from the Assistant Principal position at Beatrice Middle School.

Alexander says a search will be getting underway to fill the position of Assistant Middle School Principal.

"Our plan would be to advertise for that probably starting towards the end of this week or the start of next week, so everybody has a full Christmas vacation to see that, and start getting their materials together. It's just going to be a very busy spring, we feel like, with a lot of retirements...not just us, but schools across the state."

Haake is a former St. Joseph’s Catholic School administrator in Beatrice who joined the Beatrice Public School District in 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Assistant Principal Pam Henning. Haake previously also served as a teacher and coach in the Lincoln Public School system.

In board action Monday night, the board approved the purchase of new computers for the district to replace Windows seven units, at a cost of $18,475. The purchase was the result of an ESU Number Five staff review of district technology...including a cyber-security attack on the district that was unsuccessful.

Board members also approved the purchase of 300 new chrome books for students, at a cost of $109,563. District students will begin using those units next school year. The purchase had been delayed a year when a licensing of older units was extended for a year.
