Nebraska state senator drafting cannabis ballot initiative

LINCOLN, Neb. – As more and more states pass ballot measures legalizing marijuana, one state senator is looking to push Nebraska into the mix.
Nebraska State Senator Anna Wishart announced on Saturday that her team is drafting a ballot initiative to legalize cannabis for full adult use, joining a medical marijuana initiative that they are seeking to get onto the 2022 ballot.
Wishart posted on Facebook that in light of South Dakota’s successful November ballot measure and Friday’s vote in the House of Representatives to decriminalize marijuana, Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana is seeking to craft the second ballot measure.
South Dakota is one of four states bordering Nebraska that has legalized marijuana in one form or another. Colorado voted to fully legalize cannabis in 2012. Missouri voted to legalize medicinal cannabis in 2018, with sales opening in October 2020. Limited use of CBD is legal in Iowa.
