LINCOLN, NE - A neighborhood Santa was the victim of vandalism in Lincoln. His decorations were smashed with bats. Now the community is helping him pick up the pieces, while police look for suspects.
Terry Selvage has been collecting Christmas decorations for 15 years throughout 13 states. But what is usually a jolly holiday stop for kids in the community was threatened when some teenagers destroyed his decorations and his son's car window on Tuesday.
Selvage said he was asleep when his daughter noticed a car parked outside on their security camera. By the time they checked the outside, the car was gone. Selvage posted about the incident, made a police report, and found videos of similar incidents at other homes that night.
Despite the more than $1,000 worth of damage, things are turning around. The community has come together to fix the decorations, donate $1,200 for Selvage on GoFundMe, and helped track down two of the vandals.
"Lincoln residents helped me rebuild, my nativity set is being repaired, some people identified the individuals in the video, [they] come by and offer support," he said, "Nothing negative has come out of this, it's all been positive."
In fact, while we were there someone even stopped by to offer help. So it turns out, even angsty teenagers can't put the lights out of Christmas.
If you have information about Christmas vandals, authorities recommend you notify the Lincoln Police Department.
