Nebraska health officials are preparing for the vaccine while staying focused on taking care of the patients currently in their care.

CHI Health CEO, Dr. Cliff Robertson, says the hospital has one freezer ready to host the vaccine, with another on the way.

Despite concerns about hospital capacity, officials say there are currently more people hospitalized for general health reasons, than for COVID-19 cases.

With 14 locations across Nebraska, CHI hospitals are able to manage overflow by transferring patients. Though it comes with a cost, CHI health is prepared to reduce non-emergency surgeries if need be.

Dr. Robertson says he is confident in the health system to make the decisions necessary to accompany patients if COVID-19 case numbers continue to rise.
