SIDNEY, NE — Several storefronts in Sidney honored our nation's veterans over the past week all thanks to one man's collection.

Retired U.S. Army Colonel Larry Nelson has about 140 uniforms in his collection in Sidney. He lent about 90 of them to area businesses to put  in storefronts to mark Veterans Day.

The uniforms each represent someone from the area who served. Some even represent relatives of the business owners.

Nelson says it's great to see the local businesses participate in honoring veterans.

"It warms my heart when I go in and ask if that'd be all right to bring my characters back for a display and one of the people said they'd be honored to have them on display," Nelson said.

The uniforms were on display for the week leading up to and including Veterans Day. Nelson says just over 10 businesses took on uniforms for a city-wide viewing.

Nelson also has uniforms permanently on display at the Cheyenne County Veterans Services office and the veterans clinic in Sidney. Part of his collection can also be viewed in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
