Multiple grass fires erupt along Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne County
Another day, another round of grass fires in drought-ridden Cheyenne County Saturday afternoon.

BROWNSON - Another day, another round of grass fires in drought-ridden Cheyenne County Saturday afternoon.
Sidney, Kimball, Potter, Dix and Peetz Fire Departments responded to at least three separate grass fires on the north side of Highway 30, along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, between Sidney and Potter. The fires occurred at the same time and were less than a mile a part from each.
The furthest west of the fires threatened some structures. No word on if any buildings were damaged.
The cause of the fires remains under investigation by the Potter Volunteer Fire Department. Weather conditions were fair during the fires, including southeast wind at 8 mph and a temperature at 75 degrees.
The Nebraska State Patrol and Cheyenne County Sheriff's office also responded to the scene.
The new blazes come just two days after a large grass fire claimed 200-300 acres of pasture land between Interstate 80 and Hwy. 30 west of Dix.
