Nebraska Legislature takes shape with Republicans gaining two seats
When state lawmakers return to the Capitol in January, there will be more Republicans and fewer Democrats.
LINCOLN, Neb. — When state lawmakers return to the Capitol in January, there will be more Republicans and fewer Democrats. With just a few votes left to be double-checked, the GOP has gained two seats in the Unicameral.
That means Republicans now hold 32 seats to Democrats’ 17. That still leaves the GOP one vote short of the 33 needed to shut down filibusters and force votes on key bills.
Two incumbents won't be returning. Grand Island Democrat Dan Quick lost to Republican Ray Aguilar, and Republican Andrew La Grone, who was appointed by Governor Ricketts, lost to Jen Day in Gretna.
