BEATRICE – An interim director has been named for the Beatrice Public Library, following the retirement of long-time Librarian Laureen Riedesul.
The city council approved the appointment of Joanne Neeman as Interim Library Director, by consent vote Monday night. She has served as Youth Services Librarian at the facility, located at 16th and Ella.

The city council also approved a resolution adopting a revised job description for the position of Library Director. Laureen Riedesul retired as Director this past week, following 43 years of service to the City of Beatrice.

In other action Monday evening, a small parcel of property owned by Mosaic is now added to the city. The Beatrice City Council gave third, and final round approval to the annexation Monday night.  A new city trail section runs along the property, and annexing the ground makes certain that the city would be responsible for police and fire response to the area, if needed.

The City of Beatrice has a new agreement with Gage County for emergency services-and dispatch involving the Southeast Communications Center, located at Beatrice Police Headquarters.  The city council approved the interlocal agreement Monday night…for a three-year period through June 30th, 2023.
The communications center provides dispatch service for Beatrice all of Gage County, and for the City of Crete.
