FILLEY, Neb/News Channel Nebraska — Authorities say a propane leak caused a Nebraska house fire that left one person dead and two critically injured. The fire started early Saturday near the Gage County village of Filley.
The State Fire Marshal Agency said in a news release that the house was "fully involved" when firefighters arrived. Two inside the house got out and were flown to a Lincoln hospital, but first responders pronounced the third occupant dead at the scene. Filley firefighters responded to the scene along South 162nd Road and mutual aid came from the Beatrice Rural Fire Department. Adams Firefighters also went to the scene.
The fire location was a mile east and a mile south of Filley.
Two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene of the fire following midnight, Saturday…one from Lincoln and the other from Omaha. Both had landed at the scene just after 1:15 a.m. Emergency radio traffic reported two males had suffered burns over sixty percent of their bodies. When the helicopters arrived, the two burn victims were at a residence about an eighth-of-a mile north of the fire scene.
The Gage County Attorney's Office called for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Names were withheld Saturday afternoon while relatives were notified.
