Public invited to fallen Lincoln officer’s funeral
The Lincoln Police Department is inviting the public to attend the funeral for fallen investigator Mario Herrera.
LINCOLN, NE — The Lincoln Police Department is inviting the public to attend the funeral for fallen investigator Mario Herrera.
Police say a teenager shot the 23-year LPD veteran while he was attempting to serve a warrant on August 26. Herrera died at an Omaha hospital on Monday.
The funeral is set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The public will only be able to enter via the entrance off the pedestrian bridge from the festival lot. That entrance is on the northeast side of the arena. Doors open at 8:30 and a clear bag policy will be in effect.
There will be pre and post funeral processions:
Note from LPD: "On the day of the funeral, we are requesting assistance from Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, University of Nebraska Police, and Nebraska State Patrol to respond to calls for service within the city limits. If you need to make a report or have an emergency, be aware that you may see a different agency responding to you."
