COLUMBUS - Westbound traffic along 23rd Street was backed up Tuesday afternoon because of a pair of crashes not far apart from each other.

The first one was a two-vehicle wreck at 16th Avenue. The Columbus Fire Department says it transported one person from there with non life-threatening injuries.

The second collision happened in the same area and involved three vehicles. No one was transported from that one.

News Channel Nebraska is waiting on details from Columbus police about how each accident happened or how much damage there was.

Firefighters said weather may have been a factor because rain makes the roads slick, and that drivers may not be used to it and fail to correct their speed or following distance.
