BEATRICE – A Beatrice man described as a transient who was arrested on a warrant faces other potential charges, after police found him in possession of a weapon.

An officer was conducting surveillance of a home along South 8th, when he observed a man walk from a home to a vehicle parked in the driveway. The officer recognized the man, who had an active warrant from Gage County.

Two officers approached 36-year-old James Orton, who was removed from the car without incident and taken into custody on the warrant.

Police found a knife in a sheath between Orton and the center console of the vehicle.   Orton has a felony conviction from the state of Oklahoma, from 2004. He was arrested on the warrant, and for alleged possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and carrying a concealed weapon.

The arrest happened Tuesday afternoon.
