NEWMAN GROVE, NE — A northeast Nebraska man is dead after a two-vehicle accident Thursday.

Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says deputies were dispatched to the accident scene one mile west of the Highway 45 and Highway 91 intersection around 5:00 p.m. Wemhoff says 75-year-old John Sellhorst of Newman Grove was driving his pickup eastbound on Highway 91 when he crossed the center line and hit a westbound water truck. The water truck was driven by 31-year-old Yasmanis Varela Marti of Grand Island.

Sellhorst was pronounced dead at the scene. Marti was not injured. Wemhoff says both vehicles were totaled.

Newman Grove Fire and Rescue and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident.
