LINCOLN - Gov. Pete Ricketts says Nebraska doesn't need a mask mandate, this despite the fact that more than 30 states currently have one in effect.

Ricketts said Wednesday that the state's current plan is what's right for Nebraska.

"I think by asking Nebraskans to do the right thing, we'll get more compliance, and we won't meet as much resistance as if we actually had the big heavy hand of the government telling them what to do."

Currently Omaha is the largest city in the country not to have a mask mandate.

Gov. Ricketts recently said that the state would file a lawsuit against Omaha if it pursued a mask order on the grounds that the city didn't have the legal authority to do so.
