Katherine Steinkamp named Nebraska History Teacher of the Year

NORFOLK - Norfolk Public Schools is proud to announce that Norfolk High School teacher, Katherine Steinkamp, has been named the 2020 Nebraska History Teacher of Year.
Steinkamp has been a Social Science Teacher at Norfolk High School for 15 years and currently teaches courses in World Cultures, U.S. Government, and U.S. History.
During her tenure at NHS she has served as the Social Studies Department Head, Nebraska Capitol Forum Teacher/Leader, Junior Statesmen of America Sponsor, Drama Technical Director, Drama Assistant Director, Speech and Debate Assistant Coach, Mock Trial Head Coach, National Honor Society Coordinator, Curriculum Coordinating Council, School Improvement Team, and District Technology Cadre.
This award is presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
Inaugurated in 2004, the History Teacher of the Year Award highlights the crucial importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary school through high school.
The award honors one K-12 teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and U.S. Territories.
In fall 2020, the National History Teacher of the Year will be selected from the pool of state winners.
In addition to a $1,000 award, Norfolk High School will receive a core archive of American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials.
Mrs. Steinkamp will be recognized at a ceremony in Nebraska.
