NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - 50-year-old Dewaine Nichols of North Platte appeared in Frontier County Court Friday with Judge Kent Turnbull presiding. Attorney Russ Jones of North Platte is representing the man who is charged on suspicion of assault and attempted motor vehicle homicide for hitting a woman with his car in a case of road rage on Highway 83 between McCook and Maywood on June 16th.

The Nebraska State Patrol arrested Nichols about an hour and a half after he fled the scene.

Judge Turnbull set Nichols next court date for August 27th at 10:15 a.m. in Frontier County District Court.

The Nebraska State Patrol said it responded June 16th to a crash scene, where a woman reported that she had been engaged in a road rage incident that had lasted for several miles. She said that both vehicles had stopped and she had exited her vehicle to confront the other driver.

She said her boyfriend pulled up as the driver of the other vehicle accelerated, struck her and drove off. Her injuries weren’t life-threatening and her boyfriend pursued the truck until loosing sight of it, the patrol said.
