BEATRICE, NE - A prestigious southeast Nebraska high school sports tournament is making changes to its 2020 event.

The MUDECAS conference schools voted at a meeting last week to move this year’s volleyball tournament out of Beatrice.

The conference will instead be hosting the tournament at conference schools. The decision of the conference was made based on SCC's notice that the Truman Center may be off limits to outside groups during the coronavirus pandemic, and the potential for high COVID-19 risk making Beatrice High School also unavailable. The conference says its decision was in no way a reflection of any negative feelings toward the Kiwanis Club, SCC, or Beatrice High School.

There’s a tentative bracket out for the tournament. Organizers say traveling distance was valued over home-court advantage.

The four host sites locations for the tournament will be: Division A (Freeman and Dilller-Odell), and Division B (Tri County and Johnson County Central).

If COVID-19 conditions necessitate changes to this bracket, the conference voting members will meet and make such changes as needed.
