Report: Cheyenne school staff insensitive before incident
An investigation found that staff at a Wyoming junior high school repeatedly used “derogatory and/or insensitive language”.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An investigation found that staff at a Wyoming junior high school repeatedly used “derogatory and/or insensitive language” and students made racist, homophobic and otherwise derogatory comments toward peers leading up to a homophobic and racist incident in 2019.
That's according to a report obtained through a lawsuit filed by media outlets.
The investigation resulted from anti-gay flyers with a racist statement that a student posted at McCormick Junior High School in Cheyenne. The report found some staff feared retaliation if they reported discriminatory bullying.
The school district has since taken steps to be more inclusive for minority and LGBTQ students and those with disabilities.
