To Be Or Not To Be... The Fairbury Jeff Man On The Water Tower
FAIRBURY, NE - A Fairbury organization is asking individuals and organizations to help ensure Fairbury's mascot "The Jeff Man" continues to be seen proudly on the community's water tower. Scheduled work and maintenance on the water tower is set to begin in August. It's part of a big water improvement project the city is doing which includes new water mains, the 3rd Street replacement project, City Park drainage and improvements to the water tower. Mainly, a new paint job.
To put the iconic "Jeff Man" and the water tower would cost the city of Fairbury an extra $5,000. Back in January, the city had approached Fairbury Public Schools to see if they were interested in either all or at least part of that sum. At the school board meeting on Jan. 13th, Fairbury Public Schools expressed no interest in contributing anything toward the expense. The city council then voted unanimously to not take action on the matter, and instead ask other organizations around town if they'd be interested in paying some, or all, of the $5,000 expense to repaint the Jeff Man.
The Fairbury Civic Foundation Board of Directors stepped up to the plate and has pledged $2,500 from the Foundation’s general fund to be used toward painting the mascot on the tower. They are now seeking individuals and organizations interested in helping see this project to its completion.
Those parties wishing to help support this endeavor with additional pledges toward the $5,00 goal may contact Fairbury City Administrator, Mary Renn at (402) 729-2476.
