VERDIGRE - A lot of great American institutions were born in 1912.

The Girl Scouts of America.

Oreo Cookies.

And Lottie Randa.

And like those other American legends, Lottie’s still going strong.

Dozens gathered in Verdigre on Sunday to celebrate Lottie Randa’s 108th birthday at Alpine Village Long Term Care Center.

The Care Center hosted a parade where friends and relatives gathered to wave and wish Lottie happy birthday in multiple creative ways.

It was a fun celebration, but honestly a little more subdued than Lottie is used to.

The town of Verdigre is used to celebrating Lottie’s birthday every year, as it usually coincides with the town’s annual Kolach Days celebration. With Kolach Days canceled this year due to COVID-19, family members say they were glad they were able to celebrate somehow.

It may not have been the celebration the Randas had originally hoped for, but they say they were glad the community was still able to show Lottie how much she means to them.

Lottie's age places her as the third oldest among living Nebraskans.

The Town of Verdigre was founded in 1887, meaning the village itself is just 25 years older than Lottie.
